My Goal

Ultimately, I want my students to go home without any baggage. That way, their families can experience them for who they are, instead of who they are not.

Class Ingredients

  • The process, not the outcome is not the most important part of fitness. Sweating, and putting forth effort beyond one’s capacity are critical experiences to regularly have. Ultimately these experiences serve to cleanse—in order to make way for strength we must dispose of what is weak.

The 1st half of our classes are devoted to exercise—instilling athleticism, sweating and challenging our bodies to be better than the days erosion.

  • The 2nd half of class is devoted to creating skill. Our goal is to move like Muay Thai, and learn the relationship between offense and defense and how both interrelate and coexist.

  • Context, storytelling and narrative is what drives good training. Martial Art is at its core a study of conflict—how to prepare, and respond proportionately. Whether in the ring or not, Muay Thai is an aid to such thinking and we would sell our training short if we trained our bodies and ignored our minds. Throughout your training, you can expect your classes driven by such narratives with the implicit goal of leveraging your Muay Thai to aid in difficult life situations.

Class Methodology

  • Our foundation is our health, and strength. As we age, disease from sedentation becomes our main opponent.

Atop it we build skill. Suitable for anyone of any level and experience, in these classes we emphasize:

    1. Fitness: The ability to remain, despite a force

    2. Form: the nuanced details to rely on mechanical force over muscular force

  • In applied classes is when we put our health, strength and basic skill into context: learning the relationship between offense and defense. In these classes we emphasize:

    1. Situational Awareness

    2. Windows of opportunity

    3. Building offensive and defensive repertoire.

  • Dynamic learning is experiential learning. It is where we learn through live improvisation, and discovery. ‘Play’ is a central ingredient; learning is simply impeded when stress levels are high so it is critical that sparring and clinching be done under a relaxed and playful environment.
